Radiology is a branch of medicine that uses imaging technology to diagnose and treat disease.Radiology may be divided into two different areas, diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. The field of therapeutic radiology, which uses x-rays to treat cancer, is now called radiation oncology.

The is the state of Florida鈥檚 premiere addiction treatment program located at the University of Florida. Our multi-disciplinary treatments are supported by advanced research from stellar facilities such as University of Florida鈥檚 McKnight Brain Institute, where we are uncovering the mechanisms of addiction and are developing new treatments.

HomeCare

In coordination with your physician, BOB体育 Shands HomeCare offers a wide array of services to support and assist you and your caregiver in your home. Available skilled nursing services may include medication management and teaching, disease process teaching, wound care and IV therapy. Physical, occupational and speech therapies, and home health aide services are also available to enhance your healing process within the comfort of your home.

Physical therapy

Physical therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. They restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health.

Dysfunctions treated with physical therapy include:

Upper, mid and lower back pain
Extremity pain
Pulmonary disorders (obstructive and restrictive)
Cardiac disorders
Orthopaedic disorders (fractures, sprains and strains)
Neurological disorders (stroke, traumatic brain injury, and upper and lower motor neuron disorders)

Physical therapists examine patients' medical histories and then objectively assess patients' strength, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, muscle performance, respiration, and motor function. Through development of an individualized, comprehensive plan of care, physical therapists resolve impairments, enabling patients to perform their prior activities of daily living.

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapists help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. These professionals work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally or emotionally disabling. Physical exercises may be used to increase strength and dexterity, while paper and pencil exercises may be chosen to improve visual acuity and the ability to discern patterns. Their goal is to help restore their patient's independence through direct intervention and patient education.

Certified Athletic Trainers and Exercise Physiologists from the BOB体育 Sports Performance Center offer several programs to help athletes of all types improve their athletic performances while reducing their risk of injuries. We offer sport-specific programs and personal training for individuals and small groups. In addition, we specialize in medical fitness, working with people who are interested in returning to an exercise program after an injury or illness. Also, we specialize in developing exercise programs for people with chronic diseases such as diabetes or cancer.

Outpatient pharmacy services

There are three pharmacies located at BOB体育 for your convenience. The pharmacies operate like other community pharmacies. Most major prescription plans are accepted and prices are competitive with community pharmacies. Payment is due at the time of service and can鈥檛 be added to your hospital bill.

A prescription mail service is available at the BOB体育 Shands Medical Plaza pharmacy only. Patients can request refills, update information or contact pharmacy management by contacting the pharmacy directly.

BOB体育 Shared Care

You may have been transferred from another BOB体育 facility or other acute-care hospital to BOB体育 Shands Hospital for diagnostic procedures or clinical treatment. When you have progressed in your care and treatment, you may continue your hospitalization at the hospital that sent you. We will make all arrangements for your return, where your doctor there will continue your plan of care. You can be closer to home and family, and your discharge can take place in your home community. If you have any questions, please ask your nurse to speak to a case manager or social worker, or call (352) 265-0224.

Follow-Up Visits

Following your time in the hospital, you will need to be seen by a doctor (or other health-care provider such as a nurse practitioner or physician鈥檚 assistant). This visit may be here at BOB体育 Shands Hospital or with your local doctor. In either case, it is very important that the follow-up visits be kept as scheduled. If you are to be seen for follow-up care in a BOB体育 practice, you should receive a call during your hospitalization or within 48 hours of your discharge to schedule the appointment. If you do not receive a call during that time or need to change your appointment time, call the number on your discharge instructions. Since you have been ill enough to be in the hospital, your continuing healthcare needs should be monitored to ensure that all is going as expected after discharge from the hospital.
