My bio
Hello, my name is Dr. Brian C. Lobo. I work at BOB体育 as a board-certified Otolaryngology physician with advanced fellowship training. I also work as an Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer for the BOB体育/Shands Health System, helping ease the transition to digital health care for our providers, staff, and patients, and working on process improvement, change management, and care delivery optimization.
I received my medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and completed my residency in Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. After completion of my residency, I pursued a fellowship in Advanced Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull-Base Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland.
I joined the Department of Otolaryngology (commonly called 鈥淓NT鈥) in 2017, and helped expand the Division of Advanced Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery. While my colleague Dr. Justice built a robust interdisciplinary program to care for complex inflammatory sinus disease, I have complemented the department by providing advanced access to the orbit (eye socket) and skull base (the floor of the brain cavity in the center of the head) through a robust collaboration with Neurosurgery and Neuro-Critical Care.
This allows UF to offer state of the art care of a range of tumors and disorders that used to require large incisions with very morbid approaches instead through minimally invasive approaches often just using the nostrils. This is provided through the BOB体育 Comprehensive Skull Base Surgery Center, where experts in surgery, radiation therapy, proton therapy, endocrinology, radiology, and critical care unite to provide comprehensive care for our Skull Base Surgery patients.
I am a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology 鈥 Head and Neck Surgery and the North American Skull Base Society, and a Fellow of the American Rhinologic Society.
My clinical interests include surgery on the nose and sinuses (Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Septoplasty, Turbinate Reduction, In-Office Surgery, Balloon Sinuplasty), surgery on the brain, skull base, and upper spine through the nose (Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery, Pituitary Adenomas, Chordomas, Craniopharyngiomas), surgery on the eye socket and tear ducts through the nose (Endoscopic Orbital Decompression, Thyroid Eye Disease, Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy, Epiphora, Endoscopic Orbital Surgery, Orbital Masses).
My research interests include translational work (research that focuses on getting results at the 鈥渂edside鈥) including work on medical devices, surgical simulation and immersive environments, surgical instrumentation, biofilm and microbiome modeling, as well as clinical outcomes and quality research regarding endoscopic skull base surgery, namely its cost, efficiency, and readmission rates. I love sharing my work with others and am fortunate to have been published multiple times in peer-reviewed publications, invited as a guest lecturer to multiple programs and conferences, and act as faculty at multiple dissection courses. In addition, I am passionate about often neglected aspects of the medical field, including financial literacy and the psychology of wellness of resident training.
Myself and Dr. Justice are also lucky to be on the leading edge of mucosal immunology research through our collaboration with Dr. Jennifer Mulligan, a world renown expert in Chronic Sinusitis and Immunology, and are appreciative of our patients participating in our numerous clinical trials and research initiatives.
Research is a critical portion of our mission in the Advanced Rhinology division and we really could not do what we do without our patients鈥擨鈥檓 tremendously fortunate to have amazing patients. It鈥檚 really easy to provide the best patient care possible when your patients have patience and are committed to trusting the process.
In my free time you can usually find me eating, traveling, or finding ways to burn off all the calories I have absorbed on my adventures.
