My name is Antony Merendino, DPM, and I am a clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. I earned my medical degree from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami. Following medical school, I completed my residency in podiatric surgery at Kern Hospital for Special Surgery in Warren, Michigan.
My inspiration for becoming a physician started when I was young. I experienced the battle my grandparents had with the effects of diabetes, which eventually led to the loss of limbs and life. This formed my desire and focus to reduce the effects of diabetes and other diseases of the foot and ankle.
As a physician, it is my goal to treat my patients and educate them on the conditions they face. When my patients understand why a disease is affecting their foot and ankle, they become more involved in their care plan.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family, biking, hiking and enjoying the Florida weather and the beautiful beaches the state has to offer.
Modern footwear has been implicated as a contributor to foot pathology and changes in the biomechanics of gait. In addition to footwear, the investigators propose that the lack of terrain variation may directly contribute to the development of鈥�
