Life on the Air: BOBÌåÓý ShandsCair Chief Flight Nurse Stars on Family Feud

BOBÌåÓý ShandsCair chief flight nurse by day and Family Feud star by night â€ does Todd Brooks, BSN, CEN, UFCCP, do it all?
Survey says yes!
Brooks has been a team player at BOBÌåÓý Shands for 30 years, growing from a paramedic to chief flight nurse, all while raising four children. He has achieved many notable milestones and accomplishments in his career and personally. One of the most unique personal highlights: he and his children recently starred on the iconic TV game show Family Feud.
Throughout his career and full-time job as a parent, Brooks has learned many lessons and tried to instill them in his children. Energy, family, and teamwork were at the heart of everything they did. It’s what got them on the show and helped them compete in two different episodes.
“We’re all very competitive, Brooks shared. “My son told them that we don’t want to go on the show to be on TV but to win, and that is the mentality it took to make it like we did.
That competitive energy comes from years of athletic and health care-related experiences. The Brooks family has grown up as a team, supporting and encouraging one another, and now, they see that play out in their careers and on the show. Brooks oldest son, Corey, is a nurse paramedic in Jacksonville; the second oldest, Kyle, is the head baseball coach at Santa Fe High School; Casey is a firefighter and paramedic in Gainesville; and the youngest, Madi, is in the accelerated R.N. program at the University of North Florida.
“I think my favorite experience with the game show was that I fell in love with my four kids all over again you raise them as kids, then you kind of lose them as they grow into adults, but if you’re lucky, you get to have another experience like this, Brooks shared.
As Brooks reflected on being part of the show with his family as his team, he also recounted the teamwork he experiences with his work family each day at ShandsCair.
As chief flight nurse, Brooks manages hiring, scheduling, and training, working directly with the flight care team.
“I took this leadership role because I wanted to help build and work with the next generation, he shared. “Throughout my day, I try to make visits to the ER, assist when the helicopters arrive, and collaborate directly with my team because I know how important it is to work together and understand what they do.
“Teamwork plays a huge role. When training, I use athletic scenarios to teach them that no competition they have ever gone up against will compare to the daily challenge they face in this career to save human lives, Brooks said. “There is no bigger competition than that.
Brooks approach to teamwork, collaboration, and dedication has been key to his success at work, with his family, and even on Family Feud. His passion for leadership, teamwork, and excellence is genuinely contagious. His infectious leadership of others shines through, easily visible through our amazing ShandCair team or the spirited competition on Family Feud.
The Brooks family won their first night competing on Family Feud and lost on their second night. Although they didn’t win the big bucks, they left with memories they will hold onto for a lifetime.
After sharing his story, Brooks reflected, “Dang, how cool was that?
