Unconscious Bias

Description

All Health Science Center faculty are welcome!

Biases are a part of human nature, and they impact our choices everyday. Though some are blatant, the majority of the biases that effect our choices are complicated and harder to detect. Unconscious bias can compromise diversity and inclusion efforts in admissions, curriculum development, counseling, and faculty advising, among other functions. By learning how to identify and confront unconscious bias in yourself and others, though, it is possible to mitigate the impact and promote respect for all groups.

Goals and Objectives:

Recognize how unconscious bias impacts our decisions. Demonstrate awareness of your own background and it impacts your perceptions. Apply strategies for conscious awareness in advocating inclusion.
