Scholarship in the clinical area is an important activity in improving both patient care and medical education. Furthermore, scholarship helps shape medical disciplines and subsequent presentation and publication productivity is important for personal career develop. During this session, we will review the various forms of scholarship (using Boyers Scholarship Model) and provide examples from the careers of the presenters to assist individual audience members as they turn their clinical interests and observations into scholarship.

Objectives:

Be able to present the importance of scholarly activity as a routine aspect of academic patient care and medical education. Describe Boyers Scholarship Model. Provide examples of individual clinical and educational interests and observations that have led to scholarly work. Have audience members provide areas of their interest that may lead to scholarship. Identify potential barriers to publication of scholarly work and potential strategies to overcome them.
