Description
The Center for Inflammation and Mucosal Immunology cordially invites you to a guest lecture presented by Dr. Gill Diamond entitled "Antimicrobial Peptides in the Respiratory and Oral Mucosa: Roles in Host Defense and Therapeutics. The presentation is summarized by Dr. Diamond in the following paragraph:
My research focuses on antimicrobial peptides, including defensins and cathelicidins, and how they function in the innate immune defense against microbial pathogenesis of the respiratory tract and the oral mucosa. The lecture will focus on the following two areas: the use of vitamin D to enhance the peptide-based antimicrobial defense of these tissues, and the use of small-molecule peptide mimetics as therapeutic agents to treat infections.
The lecture will be held in the Biomedical Science Building, Room JG32 on Tuesday, July 24th at 12:00 p.m.
