Title Oxygen Exchange with Aging and Exercise Training: Differential Effects on Muscle, Adipose Tissue, and Reproductive Organs
Presented by Brad J. Behnke, Ph.D. Assistant Professor University of Florida College of Health and Human Performance Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The participants shoule be able to:
- Define and describe how aging affects oxygen exchange (blood flow, microvascular oxygenation, and O2 uptake) in skeletal muscle, and how exercise training affects these variables in both active and inactive (non-recruited) skeletal muscle.
- Describe how aging affects cardiac output distribution to adipose tissue, and the mechanisms responsible for this altered blood flow distribution.
- Explain how exercise training may be detrimental in some tissues.
