Description
Application exercises are a major component of student learning in a team-based learning (TBL) module. They allow learners to apply the knowledge gained from pre-class assignments to solve real-world problems in a collaborative classroom atmosphere. Participants will have learned the rules for creating and implementing effective TBL application exercises, known as the 4 Ss, in the workshop Introduction to Team Application Writing." In this workshop participants will review and revise their learning objectives and 4-S application exercises in a collaborative setting with guidance from the facilitators. Participants should come to the workshop with an example learning objective and team application exercise they have created for a TBL module.
Objectives:
Given a TBL problem-solving activity, recognize components of the activity that deviate from the 4-S guidelines. Given a TBL problem-solving activity, identify specific revisions that bring the activity into alignment with the 4-S guidelines.
Preparation Assignment:
- Please read the PDF TBL Backward Design before the workshop, which is available online at .
- Write a high order learning objective and 4-S application exercise for your course. Bring to the workshop for review and revision.
